Special Event: February ORC HSE Occupational Safety and Health Group: Meet Dr. Sidney Dekker. OSH Network Morning Session: February 6, 2019
We are very excited to announce that one of the world’s foremost experts on incident causation and human error, Sidney Dekker, will provide unique opportunity to learn and interact with him at our OSH Group meeting on February 6, 2019. Dr. Dekker’s ideas have created a revolution in thinking throughout the safety world, urging employers and safety professionals alike to change their perspectives on injury prevention, compliance, rules and procedures, and safety culture. Dr. Dekker will give a two-hour presentation on his newest thinking during the Wednesday morning session. Later, ORC HSE members are encouraged to explore groundbreaking concepts in an evening open discussion session. Be sure to take advantage of the chance to learn from this high-profile scholar. A live webcast of the morning session is planned for ORC HSE members who cannot attend in person.
Sidney Dekker (PhD Ohio State University, USA, 1996) is Professor and Director of the Safety Science Innovation Lab at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, and Professor at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University in the Netherlands. He has recently been flying the Boeing 737 as airline pilot on the side. He is a film maker (‘Safety Differently,’ 2017; ‘Just Culture,’ 2018) and bestselling author of, most recently: The Safety Anarchist (2018); The End of Heaven (2017); Just Culture (2016); Safety Differently (2015); The Field Guide to Understanding ‘Human Error’ (2014); Second Victim (2013); Drift into Failure (2012); Patient Safety (2011), and co-author of Behind Human Error (2010).
