The Innovation Award was launched by ORC HSE in 2018 to acknowledge the excellent work being performed by our members and as a way to reinforce leadership commitment to EHS initiatives. It also is our hope that the Innovation Award will support and promote the sharing of best practices by our member companies.
Potential areas for nomination include pandemic planning, COVID-19 response, leading indicators; multicultural management involvement; engineering design; employee engagement; overcoming cultural barriers; training approaches; EHS communication; HOP; system safety; and wellness. Innovations involving other topics are also welcome.
The award application calls for a description of the nomination and an explanation of what makes the approach innovative. The applicant is asked to discuss any program improvements that have been realized because of the nomination, to what extent the nomination has been implemented within the company, plans to further expand the nomination, and employee and management involvement.
Nominations will be evaluated on these criteria:
Does the innovation address a serious and/or significant problem?
Does the solution solve the problem in an innovative way?
Is the innovation unique in its application within EHS?
Is the innovation having an impact in a sustainable way?
How well can the innovation be deployed:
• Within the company?
• Within the industry?
• Within other industries?
A blind review of applications will be conducted by an ORC HSE team. Company names and contact information must be removed from applications; failure to do so may affect acceptance of the application.
The award recipients will be notified by November 1st 2020. Award recipients and runners up will be invited to present the details of the of their innovation either at a virtual meeting or as part of an in-person meeting in 2021. Awards will be publicized on the ORC HSE website.
